Dear All,
Hope you are doing great! I found this week’s discussion very interesting and intriguing! Social class and classism have played significant roles in my life and have affected my perception of myself and others. Growing up, my family was lower-middle class, and we struggled financially. This meant that we often couldn't afford the same things that other kids had, such as expensive clothes, gadgets, and vacations. This made me feel inferior to my wealthier peers, and I often felt left out and excluded.
Additionally, I have also experienced classism in different ways throughout my life. One notable example is when I was in college and went shopping at a high-end store with a friend. The shopkeeper gave us an attitude and followed us around the store, assuming that we couldn't afford to buy anything there because of our appearance. It was a humiliating experience, and it made me realize how much of a role appearance and perceived social status play in how people treat you.
