What is Socratic ignorance? Givean example that relates to people today
Socratic ignorance relates to theidea of knowing your own limitations Socrates was considered by many of hiscontemporaries to be the wisest man of his time In an effort to discern whetherthis was true he set out to find someone wiser than he was What he discoveredthat while many people were more knowledgeable than he was about certain areasthey tended to assume that since they know a lot about one area they were wisein many areas Socrates took a different approach He entered intoconversations with people by declaring his ignorance and asking the person hewas talking with to teach or enlighten him Many times he found out that healready knew more than the other person, other times he learned from more fromthem than he had previously known His wisdom was rooted in the practice ofknowing his own limitations and being willing to learn from others rather thanbecoming proud of a little knowledge and resisting instruction from others
