Cultural Definition & Cultural Poem Get Started Now: This is important research into self-identity Two Parts: 1.Define your culture in 3 sentences or less. 2.Write a poem about your culture (in whatever way you experience your culture). This poem should rhyme in some sense. It needs rhythm. The importance of this is to express yourself. First, you have to explore who you are and why you are the person you are. Will your “habitus” define you, or do you define yourself? Bourdieu’s “habitus” refers to those people, structures and influences in which you were raised. In our times of change it is important to explore who we are, who and what shaped us, and if this is who we want to be. Be original, and specific, not a general rehash. However, as important is the ability to see others i.e. if you want someone to see you then you must also see them. I will NOT tolerate guilt, blame, shaming, of ANY culture, ethnicity, ability in order to express yourself. This will require you to dig deep and uncover the word genius inside of yourself. Guidelines: · Write using, no larger than a standard font in 14 point (Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri) · Cultural Poem is at least 2 pages double-spaced · The cultural definition is separate from this page count · Give your work an original Title and put your name in the “Header” · As you will be posting this to Canvas your cultural definition and poem will be public. · 1. Then skip a line and write “My Cultural Definition” in the center of the paper. Then write your three sentence definition. On the second page, at the top, put your original title for your work, then begin your poem. Save document with name and title. 1. Copy and paste the definition and poems (omit the spaces between the definition and poem.). 2. Upload the poem as a word document to the DB too.
