social structure essay: rough draft

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to show the interconnectedness of the overall society and the institutions within it. It also demonstrates how the same institution can look very different, or very similar, in different societies. How do social institutions shape social structure?

Pick one major institution (family, government, religion, economy, or education) and compare and contrast it across three societies: your society of origin and Japan and Mexico Explain why it is an institution in each and how it helps to shape social structure in each.

Tip: Comparing and contrasting the roles attached to the statuses in the different societies is an effective means of connecting the institution to the overall social structure.

Rough drafts must be pasted into the discussion site, not just attached.

Rough drafts are not graded, but will be prorated. That is, incomplete rough drafts will not receive full points.

A complete rough draft includes: an introduction, all the necessary parts in the middle (as dictated by the assignment), and a conclusion

Society of origin simply means the one you know best, so the you can produce an example with no research needed. For most of you, this will be the United States.

Be sure to define any sociological terms used in the essay.

Remember to include references at the end. For most submissions this will simply be the text, but any other sources used need to be listed as well.
