Introduction
The political institutions are one of the
basic components of running the government. In fact, they are responsible for the general wellbeing of people living across nation. The division of power and authority among these political institutions is enhanced by the approach of media as well; it is more like an interlinked concept through which, the opinions and moods of the public is shaped largely. The democratic values of political institutions are conducted with a positive approach so that the elected representatives remain in the perfect frame of mind. However, the social institutions and media altogether, at times, are used to control the mentality of people especially in the modern context where technical evolutions and digitalization of modern human life is an inevitable portion of social construct. The following is the analysis of how social institutions and media altogether influence the mindset of people.
The Social Construct and Stigma of Media
At first, it is significant to note here that the conventional approach of the social construct is more like a part of the influential media. As much as the society has grown, the role that media has played in has also evolved over the course of time. However, there are multiple angles to examine this perspective. For developed nation, the role of media in shaping the mindset of people is of the major parts of the political strategies of the parties. The virtual world and control of media over people is used positively to enhance the favorable aspect for a particular political campaign.
An example of the same can be given as the Cambridge scandal and the engagement of Facebook in it. During the political campaign for Donald Trump in United States, social media platforms like Facebook were prominently used to sneak through the data of millions of users. The significant part of this scandal started in 2014 when an app was launched in sync with Facebook and users who enrolled for this app got their private data used for political purposes in 2018. The users literally felt that they were ‘influenced’ by portraying the positive image of Trump before them in spite of their holding a different opinion to it. The scandal ended up in Facebook apologizing to the users whose data was taken by Cambridge based company who leaked this data sources. Thus, political campaigns in developed regions of the world remain largely dependent over the so called swag of one political party of leader.
Secondly, the use of social institutions affects the mindset of people through community control. This control is driven from the polarization of voters into the favor of one party or person. This particular concept works on the physical grounds i.e. the role of electronic media or social media platforms are nominal in this context. The community control is a process which is mostly seen in the developing regions of the world. For example, in Indian elections which are seen as the largest of the festivals of democracy, the mentality of common voters is put to process through dividing them upon the bases of castes and religion. In India, the social structure is driven from multiple religions and castes living in the same society. The political parties elect their candidates carefully so that their candidates can affect the community people largely to gain their favor. The role of media in it is to propagate the image of the local leader as one of the mediums that can do the works of progress and social alleviation.
Moreover, when it comes to examine how social media platforms and social institutions work together, it is a...
