Introduction
The discriminations that deal with people’s religious practices and beliefs is known as religious discrimination. Treating people differently according to one’s own beliefs and not accepting the different practices of others in the society creates a conflict and causes religious discrimination. The causes of discriminations can be different in different areas of workplace, education and the community.
This occurs based on harassment, unacceptance and prioritising on religious practices. The society is highly affected by such attitude towards each other. It creates a social conflict, reduces social connections and morals of an individual and social and economic impacts. The problem can be socially analysed according to the triangle model of social analysis based on ideology, structure and individual impacts. The social analysis of religious discrimination is explained below.
Social Analysis:
Ideology
Religious discrimination always creates an unequal treatment towards different groups of people in the society according to their religious beliefs. As mentioned by Vang, Hou and Elder (2019), discrimination based on religion affects every sector of employment, education, housing-complexes, social connections and individual moral values. The concept is more on the perceiving behaviour of the person and the complexities that comes with it.
The experience of religious discrimination highly affects the mental health of a person in the society. According to Wu and Schimmele (2021), the mental health of a person in the society deteriorates due to the concept of discrimination that they get from the society. Especially the minorities feel their religious beliefs to be unacceptable by the society and creates a perceived discrimination, which affects their mental health.
Religious discrimination in the workplace is another emerging social problem, which arises a conflict in the society. As stated by Cantone and Wiener (2017), religious discrimination in the workplace occurs when the majority of the workers follows a particular religious practice and prioritises the decisions taken by them. This causes a hostile working environment, which can anytime create a workplace breakdown creating the feeling of a lack in social identity for the minorities.
