By testing and compiling data on the breed’s population, TDDP aims to bring breeders and owners together to develop a database of genetic information. The project was initiated in 2017 by Emily Chow--with the help of logistics specialist Kelly Smith--after realizing the Tamaskan gene pool was entering a state of stagnation. Chow negotiated a contract with canine genetic testing company, Embark Veterinary, to provide its services for the project’s community. The Embark test simplifies and standardizes the process for collecting genetic information from dogs within the breed-- including approved outcross specimens. The organization operates through an online platform to collect and disseminate breed information. The website, located at www.tamaskandogdiversityproject.com, is the main client- facing interface for TDDP. The site provides information about TDDP and the Embark testing process, as well as an ordering system for the Embark test. To order an Embark test through the website, the interested party must fill out a form which transmits to the directors via email. General information requests and correspondence may also be completed through this website. Inquiries received from breeders or owners is manually transposed from email messages, by TDDP directors, into Excel spreadsheets. Realizing its information systems had been lacking cohesiveness and robustness, TDDP enlisted the services of Team 1 Consulting to build a new system to include an updated website and integrated backend database.
