What You Need to Do: 1) Choose a non­commercial group/organization/setting (e.g., workplace, religious organization, family, college class, a university office, etc.); 2) observe if the five dimensions of McDonaldization are visible or absent inthe group or social setting you selected; and 3) write a 500­1000 word paper (2-­4pages, double­spaced) following the format below: *Paper Format:First paragraph (Introduction) (1 point): Describe what the paper will be about (McDonaldization, what group or social setting you observed ­ basically, a general outline of your paper). Second paragraph (4 points): In your own words, describe the concept of McDonaldization and its five dimensions. Third paragraph (1 point): Briefly describe your site of observation (a group/organization/setting), including the degree of rationalization it appears to be. Following 1­3 paragraphs (4 points): Using specific examples, describe how each of the five dimensions of McDonaldization manifests in the site of your observation. You description can address (but not limited to): 1) If the particular dimension of McDonaldization is functional/dysfunctional to the group/organization/setting; 2) how the dimension of McDonaldization makes you feel; 3) how you would feel if it was reversed (de­McDonaldized); and 4) in what ways the particular dimension of McDonaldization shapes your liking/disliking of the group/setting. Last 1­2 paragraphs (Conclusion) (4 points): Discuss the significance of McDonaldization in our society in general. Your discussion can include (but not limited to) the following: 1) Would McDonaldization apply to all types of groups/social settings regardless of their goals/characteristics? If not, in what types of groups/social settings wouldit work better or worse?2) Do you find McDonaldization beneficial to your own life?
