Managing the work environment and facilities Page 4 of 55 Note to Assessor ‐ Assessment Conditions Skills must be demonstrated in an operational tourism, travel, hospitality or events business operation for which a tailored WHS management system can be established and monitored. This will be a simulated industry environment i.e. AVETA’s Café. Assessment must ensure access to: computers, software programs, printers and communication technology used to administer the development of a WHS system organisational specifications: o relevant state or territory WHS legislation o current plain English regulatory documents distributed by the local WHS government regulator o codes of practice and standards issued by regulatory authorities or industry groups o WHS information and business management manuals issued by industry associations or commercial publishers o current commercial policies and procedures, and hazard identification and risk assessment template documents team for which the individual establishes WHS management practices; this can be: o teams in an industry workplace who are assisted by the individual during the assessment process; or o individuals who participate in role plays or simulated activities, set up for the purpose of assessment, in a simulated industry environment operated within a training organisation. Managing the work environment and facilities Page 5 of 55 Student Instructions – Assessment Task 1 – Case Study For this Assessment Task, as a Case Study, in the role of AVETA’s Café’s Head Chef, you will be required to develop a Management Report that incorporates the following: establishing and implementing a complete work health and safety (WHS) system that covers the following components: o adequate facilities for the welfare of employees o appropriate management of incidents or accidents and notification to WHS government regulators o availability of information, instructions, training and supervision that ensure employees’ health and safety o safe: machinery, equipment and materials premises provision of entrances and exits that are safe systems of work work environment A comprehensive WHS system documents to support above system in addition to a system for keeping WHS records; as well as Identifying and providing adequate financial, human and specialist external resources to address WHS management practices How AVETA’s Café should demonstrate management practices that must be established and maintained for compliance of above system with state or territory occupational health and safety (OHS) or WHS legislation; as well as how they should evaluate and identify improvements to WHS practices within the above system When you have developed a draft of your Management Report, show it to your Trainer (demonstrating consultation with appropriate personnel and resolving any issues raised) for feedback, incorporate any changes you believe are appropriate and then submit your final Management Report to your Assessor, as evidence, for summative assessment.
