Simple Descriptive Statistics assignment
BUSN1009 assignment -- “Data Analysis Assignment” You are provided with an Excel file entitled “BUSN1009 Quantitative Methods Assignment Data”, which is available in FLO now. The data are about marks and grades of a SAMPLE of students in a big course. The main variables include: “Year”, “Gender”, “Semester”, “Mark”, and “Grade”. For this assignment assume that the number of ALL students in the course is much larger than the number of students in the sample data provided to you. You need to apply what have you learnt in BUSN1009 Quantitative Methods and write a report about your findings after analysing the sample data. Your assignment should comprise the following sections: i) Descriptive Statistics – measures of central tendency, variation and shape (you might want to consider measures such as mean, mode, median, range, standard deviation, variance, box plots, histograms, frequency tables, etc.) [25% of your assignment mark] ii) Confidence interval estimates for the mean/proportion and/or confidence interval for the difference between two means [25% of your assignment mark] iii) Hypothesis testing for the mean/proportion and/or the difference between two means [25% of your assignment mark] Please note that the finished assignment should be presented as a report with the appropriate measures selected, rationale for the selection of those measures, clearly stated hypotheses and the associated tests. You will be graded based on both the statistical analysis and the quality of your writing. The assignment must be clearly written; any diagrams, charts, tables etc. must be clearly labelled and explained in your text and any equations defined and explained. Apart from the statistical analysis, you will also be graded based on your writing and communication abilities to a broader audience [25% of your assignment mark]. Your arguments and the clarity with which you explain and illustrate the relevant findings are very important. Please pay attention to the following: ▪ The assignment accounts for 30% of your final grade. ▪ The assignment needs to be submitted via FLO. ▪ Deadline: 11:59pm, October 31, 2021 (end of Week 12). If no extension has been granted, late submissions will be dealt with as follows: a penalty of 10% of the allocated mark per day or part thereof overdue, up to the return date of the assignment. ▪ This is an individual research assignment. Plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty are treated as serious offences by the University. ▪ The expected word limit for the report is between 1000 and 1500 words, excluding tables, charts, figures, etc. BUSN 1009 Assessment 2 – Marking Rubric Total marks: /100 Question Criteria Unsatisfactory (F) Satisfactory (P) Good (C) Excellent (D) Outstanding (HD) Section (i) /25 Measures of central tendency used in the assignment are clearly stated with relevant calculations and numbers given for each measure.
