Show transcribed image text 3. A countershaft carrying two V -belt pulleys is shown in the figure. Pulley A receives power from a motor through a belt with the belt tension shown. The power is transmitted through the shaft and delivered to the belt on pulley B. Assume the belt tension on the loose side at B is 15% of the tension on the tight side. Build on the results of the problem from a previous HW set to obtain a preliminary design of the shaft by performing the following tasks: a. (10) Sketch a general shaft layout including showing the means to accommodate the fixation of the indicated bearings and pulleys to the shaft. Estimates for the component widths are acceptable at this point. b. (5) Specify a suitable material for the shaft c. (15) Determine the critical diameters of the shaft sections based on infinite fatigue life with a design factor of 1.5. Check for yielding. d. (10) Make any other dimensional decisions necessary to specify all diameters and axial dimensions. Provide a CAD drawing of only the shaft to scale, showing all proposed dimensions. e. (5) Determine the maximum deflections and slopes for the shaft.
