Self-efficacy, as explained by Bandura, relates to people’s beliefs about how well they can successfully perform behaviors that will produce a desired effect. Beliefs about efficacy are both individual and collective and directly impact personal choices and values. To examine the influence that beliefs about personal efficacy can have on a person’s life, ask five of your friends what they feel they do best. Does the skill they name relate to their field of study, to their favorite hobby, to their political beliefs? Do you agree with their self-efficacy assessments? Do they agree with your own self-efficacy assessments?
