Select two countries (one from the global North and one from the global South) for analysis with regards to issues of sustainable consumption and environmental justice.
Structure(Note: Your paper should be divided into sections with headings reflecting this structure)
Introduction- introduce the concepts of sustainable consumption and environmental justice, connecting these to historical issues of development in the global North and South before briefly introducing your two country selections and why you picked these for comparison(~1 page)
Country Overviews- provide concise descriptions of each country, focusing on the following: 1) physical geography, geopolitical location, climate/environmental issues, demographics, etc.; 2) relevant discussion of level of industrialization, engagement with the global economy, major social issues,income disparity, legal system, historical/religious attitudes toward Nature, etc.(***no more than 2 pages total***)
Country Comparisons- discuss how each country conceives ofsustainable consumption and environmental justice (if at all) and what measures have been taken to protect the environment, promote sustainability/reduce consumption, address climate change, protect biodiversity and ecosystems, establish "green cities", etc. before shifting to a more critical analysis of the major challenges that hamper such initiatives, e.g., economic, governmental, cultural, or social issues(~3 pages)
North-South Contrast- comment on how sustainable consumption and environmental justice are addressed differently in the global North and South, focusing on issues of wealth, access, identity, and connection to Nature(~2 pages)
Conclusion- reflect on the future of sustainability tying together the major themes of the course with what your research has uncovered(~1 page)
Your paper should be between 8-10 pp., double-spaced, and 12-point font, and must cite at least five (5) of the assigned readings(see the attachment) from the course(both textbooks must be cited at least once).Additionally, you must cite another five (5) outside sources, of which at least three must be from peer-refereed journals. In keeping with the course requirements, do not useun-authored web sites, encyclopedias, etc. for citation. Do not plagiarize.
