Select a teacher who has a basal reading program. Interview the teacher about his or her atitude toward basal instruction. How closely is the teacher’s manual followed? How does the teacher use the basal workbooks? In what ways, if any, doesthe teacher deviate from the suggested steps in the manual? What reasons does the teacher give for making modiications? If it is not a brand- new basal with CCSS features, ask the teacher how he or she knows whether the standards are being met.
