CONTENT INSTRUCTIONS
1. Introduction: Identify the drug you have chosen by its chemical, generic and current
trade names. Explain why you chose this particular drug.
2. In what way is this drug relevant to this unit (HFB1207 Principles of Drug Actions for
Health Professionals)? E.g. consider: Is it used to treat medical conditions that a
paramedic may be ask to attend to? Is it a drug that a paramedic may administer?
3. Classify your drug according to

c. mechanism of action (pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics)
d. route of administration and drug schedule
4. Briefly explain who the target population for this drug is and why?
5. Briefly describe (in your own words) the likely mechanism of action for this drug.
You need to do this by sourcing and reading two research articles that have
examined the drug’s pharmacological activity and then use your own words to
explain how the drug works. Be specific and detailed in your explanation. Explain
the physiological activities that are activated for the drug to take effect. Explain the
actions at a cellular, tissue, system and whole body level. You are explaining exactly
how this drug is believed to work.
6. Using the same two research articles (you may use more if you wish) and other
sources of information if required, discuss the evidence to support the effectiveness
of this drug. State the extent to which the evidence you have found supports the
claimed effectiveness of this drug.
