Every society has its favorite pastimes, and today with ever-advancing technologies, there is the ability to design high-tech equipment and utilize a host of specialists to help athletes perform better. It is such an important part of society that there are now fields dedicated to the study of sports medicine and fitness. No matter what sport or type of recreation you enjoy, the principles of science are involved. Take a look at how science helps in different sports from football, to swimming, to NASCAR™. · National Science Foundation. (2011). Friction and heat [Video]. During the unit address the following questions: 1. Select a sport or recreation and share some information about the science behind it. 2. How can you categorize the scientific information that you learned about your sport/recreation? For example, does it involve physics, chemistry, and/or biology? 3. What technological advances have been made in your favorite activity during its history? 4. What kinds of previously held beliefs or customs in your sport/recreation have been dismissed by scientific research? Explain. 5. Now that you have done some research on the science involved in your favorite activity, do you think that athletes of this sport can use that information to perform better? Why or why not? How does a pop culture portrayal of science and scientists impact the average person’s view of what science is and how research is conducted? Can what is presented by the media affect how the general public views a particular research field? What might the long-term impacts of such a depiction be? These are just a few questions that you will reflect upon in this Assignment. For the Unit 9 Assignment, you will complete an APA style reflective essay to address the following questions: 1. When you hear the word “scientist” what do you envision? a. Discuss at least three characteristics of your vision of a scientist. b. Which famous people or characters from the media come into your mind? c. What characteristics do they have in common? 2. Has your image of what a scientist does and how they look changed over time? QUESTION # 3( 100 WORDS) Discussion Overview “Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”  --John Muir Interest groups are non-profit, voluntary organizations that seek to affect public policy. Although there are a number of ways to classify interest groups, for the sake of simplicity we shall use this model: · Business/Labor/Professional Interest Groups: organizations that want to affect financial, public policy that benefits their members. · Examples: U.S. Chamber of Commerce, American Medical Association, and American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations · Ideological Interest Groups: organizations that advocate public policy based on a set of beliefs. · Example: American Civil Liberties Union · Public Interest Groups: organizations that want to affect public policy that benefits not just the members but also society. · Example: Sierra Club · Single Issue Interest Groups: organizations that advocates one public policy concern. · Examples: Human Rights Campaign Many if not most prominent interest groups form political action committees (PACs). PACs are interest groups that raise funds in order to contribute money on a political candidate and/or office holder. PACs are limited on how much money they can contribute. As of the 2019-2020 election cycle PACs can give each candidate and/or office holder $5000 (CRP, 2019.)  More information about PACs can be found the Center for Responsible Politics’s website. An example of an interest group is Boeing Corporation. Boeing Corporation is a business interest group. According to the Center for Responsible Politics, Boeing “regularly lobbies Congress to win military contracts and increase defense spending. Boeing is a major supporter of free trade, especially in Asia, where it has focused on selling more planes. The company also lobbies on environmental rules and transportation regulations, among other issues. Boeing is also a large recipient of government loan-guarantees, primarily coming from the Export-Import Bank of the United States.” (CRP, 2019) During the 2017-2018 election cycle the Boeing interest group contributed $3,189,452 to candidates or office holders. This Center for Responsible Politics’s website lists all the candidates and/or office holders that received contributions from the Boeing interest group. In addition, this Center for Responsible Politics’s website lists all of the congressional bills the Boeing interest group advocated a public policy interest. Question 1
1) The selected sport for this aspect which I enjoy is lawn tennis. The science that vehemently dominates this game is Newton's third law of motion which describes that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When a tennis ball is hit the racket exerts a force on the ball. This exertion of force is the action force. Consequently, we can witness that the ball exerts an equal and opposite force on the racket. This is the reaction force.
2) The scientific information about lawn tennis relates to Physics.
3) Carbon Technology is used in tennis to increase the strength of the rackets. Carbon nanotubes are added to the frames that increased the control and power when a player hits the ball (Vaverka et al., 2018).
4) In medieval times real tennis involved hitting a ball with bare hands and later with a glove. However, the evolution of science and the occurrence of injuries compelled the game to be played with rackets.
5) This can be effectively used by the players because Newton's third law also explains sports injuries. When a player exerts more pressure to hit the tennis ball the more reaction force is exerted on his arm that is received from the racket. So the players can keep in mind their capability so that they are not injured while playing.

This conjecture about the scientists has not evolved in me.
3) Fictional scientists in the movies are often portrayed as both heroes and villains. It is the nature of the scientist and their works that determine whether they are heroes or villains. For example, Matthew McConaughey is a scientist who was portrayed as a...
