Module 1: Assessment 1 Report on violence and health Background The purpose of this assessment is for you to look at how violence is formed and portrayed in our society. Submission of your information is in a report format that could be presented to your colleagues at a handover, weekly meeting, multidisciplinary meeting, etc. to support your colleagues in a wider understanding of violence and health. Directions With reference to the readings for this assessment and wider pertinent literature, discuss the claim that violence in society is deeply entrenched in the cultural beliefs, social values and in the economic fabric of human life (WHO, 2004). Guide to report writing In your position as RN, construct a report for your colleagues that will support them in their understanding of the foundations of violence. This report is meant to be an authentic assessment in that it is something that you will be able to give your colleagues for them to keep in their professional development portfolios. Your information could be presented to your colleagues at a handover, weekly meeting, multidisciplinary meeting, etc. You can consider creative ways of presenting your information: brochure, PowerPoint presentation, standard report format (ie 1.1, 1.2 etc. with executive summary), poster – how ever you would wish to get the information across and that is appropriate for you and for your target audience. Consider a title – make up your own attention grabbing title? Consider an introduction so that anyone reading, seeing or hearing the report will have an idea as to what the report is about: Who did the report? Why you did the report? From which literature/evidence is the report derived? You can also briefly include the main findings of your report (the main issues regarding the formation of violence) in order to focus your colleagues in on the importance of the issue straight away. Consider how to put the report together – dot points, sentences, graphs, charts, pictures, hyperlinks etc. (reminder that graphs, tables, charts, hyperlinks are NOT included in word count). Remember to in-text reference and provide an end text referencing list (reminder that both of these are NOT counted in word count). Consider a summary or recommendations section - usually a paragraph or two that summarises your report and/or makes recommendations about your findings to your workplace (workplace recommendations are not obligatory but an ideal way for you to focus on any issues that are occurring where you work or within your clientele base. We will be dealing more with this in your next assessment when we look at policy).
