Section 1: Significant Identifications
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, 1848
The Settlement of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which was signed, put an end to the Mexican-American War. It said that the US would get a substantial portion of the Mexican Cession, a region, from Mexico in exchange for $15 million. The settlement caused the contention because it raised the issue of whether slavery should be permitted to spread into the region purchased from Mexico (Faingold, Eduardo). Quite possibly the earliest significant occurrence that prompted the Civil War was the Missouri Compromise. The public authority needed to decide and discuss interestingly how to preserve harmony between free and slave states. Also, some of the citizens became biased towards issues based on authentic interests, further partitioning the country. Furthermore, it hugely affected Mexican citizens, especially those from California. The deal ushered in another time in which the US was overwhelmed, and the loss of their domain and the way of life they had become accustomed to being a tremendous disturbance.
