Content and the quality of your scientific writing. You have an opportunity to apply the subject knowledge that you have acquired and reinforced during this semester. This will be assessed according to the following strands (see the marking criteria at the end of the document): 1. Subject Knowledge Understanding and application of subject knowledge. All the group members should be able to present/explain the poster to public and peers Presentation: • Work must have figures, graphs or tables to help explain concepts and summarize information • Work must be referenced • Course work must be submitted using Arial font size 11 (or larger if you need to), with a minimum of 1.5 line spacing • Your student numbers must appear on the poster. • Poster must be submitted as a PowerPoint document (.ppt) 4 Referencing: Harvard Referencing should be used, see your Library Subject Guide for guides and tips on referencing. Regulations: Make sure you understand the University Regulations on expected academic practice and academic misconduct. Note in particular: ▪ Your work must be your own. Markers will be attentive to both the plausibility of the sources provided as well as the consistency and approach to writing of the work. CW 1: Laboratory Report Poster(50%). This should be in the form of a scientific poster. You should set powerpoint slide to size A0 or A1. You are required to print out this poster. It must also be submitted to Moodle. The purpose of the Laboratory Report Poster is: a. to summarise a lab report in a concise way; b. to show the progress which you have made in your laboratory sessions. There is a maximum word limit of 1000, but your poster will most likely be >1000 words. Examples will be provided to help you. The poster needs to consist of the following sections: 1. Title (project title; name of student and student number; name of Supervisor; Course; Date) 2. Your Aim should be clearly stated 3. Rationale: why is this laboratory technique important and what is its significance in the study of Biology? 4. Introduction should be concise and briefly summarise the literature and background 5. Summary work of completed (methodology, experimental results, new points form the literature, conclusions, future directions) - this is where you clearly show the work you have done and your progress. 6. Reference list – Harvard referencing style 7. Poster layout: Use visuals e.g. graphs, images, charts etc. and colour to make it interesting.
