Scenario or Assignment Brief Shavings incorporated manufactures and packages razor blades and packages them. They have several separate areas for manufacturing blades, treating the material and packaging the finished products. They, also, have a storage facility housing their raw material and finished good ready for dispatch. The whole of this facility is housed in a large building and a warehouse on the same plot of land. Having completed the marketing study and carried out a feasibility study, it was decided that the main blades production line (made up of one piece of machinery, 10 m long by 1.25 m wide) will have to be renewed with another, more modern one, measuring 8 m by 1m. There will, also, be two packaging machines, which need to be replaced. The machines use power, air, chemical supplies piped to the main machine and drains. There are walls and pillars throughout the shop floor. Task 1 – You are the Engineering Manager and have been given the project to ensure that the machines are replaced. As there are several different sizes of machines, it is found that you will have to re layout the whole of the manufacturing facility. You must gain approval for the project process and its efficient implementation. Your initial task is to prepare a report, which you will present to the Manufacturing and some senior members of the board. In your presentation report, you must include proposed duration of the project, what you might need in terms of personnel and other resources, together with anything else you might find necessary to complete the project on time within budget. You should provide a plan showing how and when the project would be completed (using, PERT or Gantt charts). Finally show the personnel needed and an estimate of the cost of using staff and any other resources you will use. For the purpose of this assignment, an estimate of the personnel required, depending on the possible expertise you might need, can be used. You do not have enough information for an accurate figure.
