Saturn as Seen from Earth In this exercise we will use Starry Night Enthusiast™ to observe Saturn from about 0.001 AU from the planet. Select Favourites Solar System Outer Planets Saturn from the menu. Click the Now button in the toolbar and click the stop time button. From the image of Saturn that appears, write down where you expect that the Sun is located (e.g., above, down to the right, etc.). Use the Location Scroller (hold down the Shift key while holding down the mouse button and moving the mouse) to change the view so that Saturn’s rings are edge on and move around until the Sun appears in the same region of the sky as Saturn from your viewpoint. (You can label the Sun if necessary by clicking the box to the left of the Sun in the Find pane.) Is the Sun in the same plane as the rings of Saturn? What is the phase of Saturn from your viewpoint at this time? Does this phase agree with what you would expect, with the Sun in this position?
