Ron Littlefield is considering a campaign for mayor of Chattanooga. He will enter the race if there is evidence to suggest that less than 40% of all residents are satisfied with the local government. A random sample of 375 residents is obtained, and 127 indicate they are satisfied with the local government. Do you think this politician will enter the race for mayor? Justify your answer.
It’s known as the Hum, a steady, droning sound heard in places all around the world. It is a lowfrequency, annoying, throbbing, unexplained sound. It seems to be louder at night and indoors, and approximately 2% of the people living in any given Hum-prone area can hear the sound.58 To determine if more people are affected by the Hum, a random sample of 1300 adults in Taos, New Mexico, was obtained, and 24 reported that they regularly hear the noise. Is there any evidence to suggest that the proportion of adults in this area who hear the Hum has changed? and use the p value associated with this hypothesis test to draw a conclusion.
