Review this response on the challenges of implementing a project monitoring process and make meaningful responses giving a different opinion and, raise insightful questions, model or promote critical reflection. Your responses should provide evidence that you have critically reflected on the material. reference examples from the readings I have attached suggested references Introduction Since changes are inevitable in project management, it is imperative to develop a process for monitoring them. Monitoring includes collecting, measuring, and distributing information relating to performance (Meredith, Mantel and Shafer, 2014). Below will be discussed some challenges of a monitoring process. Double loop organisational learning relates to revising plans and schedules after corrective measures in a project (Meredith, Mantel and Shafer, 2014). The project review processes will be discussed and how this can be fed into double-loop organisation learning. Challenges of implementing a project monitoring process The monitoring system is direct control between planning and implementing and some challenges may be related to the (Wanyonyi and Muturi, 2015): • project management plan • performance reports • enterprise environmental factors • organisational process assets • output or performance Challenges are related to identifying factors to be monitored (Meredith, Mantel and Shafer, 2014). For instance, the specific challenge for setting specific boundaries within the ‘iron triangle.’ Predetermined milestones and identifying red flags relating to risk during the project and may be problematic. Interestingly, highly objective parameters such as the WBS, change of scope orders and risk management plans, can still pose a challenge. WBS, although objective require the use of correct data, which may be perplexing to obtain. Incorrect information use may lead to a domino effect of monitoring the wrong parameters (Wanyonyi and Muturi, 2015). Yet more challenging (because of their subjectivity) and of greater importance are related to the attitude of stakeholders and team morale towards the project (Hormozi and McMinn, 2000). Unrealistic KPIs created at the onset of the project can generate challenges linked to team frustration of not meeting set targets. Monitoring too many parameters can result in a loss of focus on what is pertinent. Project review processes Post project review is a formal process where the project is reassessed to note the lessons learned for future benefit (von Zedtwitz, 2002). A significant amount of companies neglect this process (Henderson, Ruikar and Dainty, 2013). Double-loop system learning can be an effective approach in my job such as in the resuscitation of patients. Regardless of the outcome of resuscitative efforts, life or death, this double-loop learning process takes place in the form of ‘debriefing’ where all members of the resuscitating team brainstorm what went wrong/well and what can be implemented in future practice. Conclusion There are challenges related to the outcome of any project. Objective and subjective parameters may be misleading evaluation yardsticks.
