I do the best I know how. No bean counter knows enough about my responsibilities to be of any use to me." 100 Words (Samantha Argus-Bolyard) – Reply and Comment on the following: I would explain to the plant manger that all aspect of the business are important to the overall performance of the business. I would then explain that I believe he is doing the best he know how to do but we can all learn from each other and express that I am not there to tell how to do his job. Personally, I dont believe anyone should really be telling someone else how to preform their job function. You get much better results to explain the expectations and the end results and let people find the method that works best for them. I would then talk to him about my need as a controller to understand each of the business functions. Finally I talk to him about any areas that need improvement and ask him how I help him implement the improvements. The C Suites positions are responsible for making sure those below have the resources they need to keep the business running. In order to do that, there must be an understanding of how the business functions from the beginning stages all the way through to the final product. There should be open communication between managers and the C suite positions so that if a problem arises, managers feel confident they will get the assistance they need. Elon Musk is an example of a c suite position that knows what is going on inside his business. Im not says everyone should go to the extent that he does by involving themselves in design, production, and marketing (Cecilia, 2018). But the overall understanding of what is taking place within the company can allow the C suite to look for ways to improve the overall processes. 100 Words (Christopher Myers) – Reply and Comment on the following: I would reply to the manager by saying that accountants are a crucial part of a business. Accountants are there to help the day to day process not hinder it. This kind of attitude only makes accountants weary that this manager might be stealing from the company. It’s the accountant’s job to analyze the day to day operations to see if the process can be made more efficiently. Maybe the accountant picks up on the need to purchase a certain raw material that the company process into a product. And if this product is purchased in bulk it can save the company money. The accountant is there to save the company money and help it run efficiently as possible. Having an accountant analyze your books can help out if your company has very intricate accounting. (Odoo, 2020) Having an accountant help look at your financials can help save the company time and money. Having an in-house accountant can also help with communication. If your manager regularly needs help with different aspects of accounting the communication should be better if the company has its own accountant. If your business exports the accounting to an outside firm there can be mistakes that lead to misleading statistics. Your accountant can also help to make decisions on the fly because they know your business better. There are of course negatives to the company having an accounting department. First off you have to pay this individual a salary and pay payroll tax in order to have them as an employee. This means that you’re taking resources away from hiring a different person for the company. The company also has to make sure that this person not only knows what they are doing but also that they are honest and will not take advantage of the company. Because they have access to the financials there should be separation of duties to try to ensure that no one steals from the company. If the accountant pays the companies invoices, prints the checks out, and signs the checks then no one is checking to see if they are stealing from the company. There should be checks and balances within the company.
