In my opinion, one of the most important policy issues facing the United States are the US Refugee laws and policies. This is important because some of these people are living in inhumane conditions- they have suffered abuse of all kinds, sexual abuse, forced marriages and genital mutilation-- these are just a few of many awful things that are happening to these people that need our help, they need a safe haven.
First and foremost, the amount of refugees allowed in the USA has drastically decreased due to the Trump Administration changing the admissions ceiling, the number needs to be increased instead of decreased. Maybe not all the way to what Obama had it at but in 2017, for the first time in modern history, the United States settled fewer refugees than the rest of the world.
Secondly, the delays on getting these refugees into the USA are UNREALISTIC. According to a Humans rights first report, the processing times of the US refugee resettlement program "can be quite prolonged, leaving some refugees stranded in dangerous locations or in difficult circumstances." The department of state reported in 2016 that the entire process takes an average of 18-24 months to complete. This became even more timely and complicated when the Trump administration implemented new and more extensive procedures to prevent fraud and deception. These refugees are being left in extremely dangerous situations for prolonged amounts of time.

In my opinion, amongst several of very important United States policies, I think the tax and financial policies are a main issue in the United States today, for example.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES act) was signed into law by President Trump on March 27th 2020. The purpose of the CARES Act is to provide relief to American families and business's who have been effected by the corona virus.
Since the start of the pandemic, millions of American's have either lost their jobs, been laid off, had to close down their business, or have been personally effected by the corona virus as a victim.
In order to prevent a complete collapse of the economy, the United States Government responded with the CARES Act. This relief fund provided $1200.00 dollars for every adult American citizen and up to $3400.00 dollars for a family of four. Whilethe CARES act was helpful to the American family, I don't think it was enough.
In California, a rental house, apartment, or home owner can cost on average of up to $2500 a month. This doesn't include everything else, insurance, vehicles, utilities, and food amongst other bills that need to be paid every month. While $3,400.00 dollars is a blessing to some, it's not enough for everyday survival. Now, California is facing a second round of governor mandated closures. Once again, American's will not be able to work or open their business.
If American families don't have money to provide for their families, desperate people can cause more issues with no assistance. Increase of theft crimes, protesting and civil un-rest, and increased violent crimes and homelessness can be apart of California's future.
While I don't have the perfect answer to this problem, I think instead of issuing a second stimulus check to American families costing the American Government close to two trillion dollars. Perhaps, cutting all taxes or cutting taxes in half for the rest of the year could possibly be a relief to the American government and its people.
