Researchers from the University of Washington (Banobi, Branch, & Hilborn, 2011) questioned the impact of rebuttals of previously published findings, saying, “For those convinced that science is self correcting, and progresses in a forward direction over time, we offer only discouragement " (p.8). Do you agree or disagree with the pessimistic outlook of this statement regarding the nature of scientific progress?
