(1-2 sentences) Do NOT provide a critique of the articles here. Discuss the article least related to your proposed research first. The last article to be discussed in the Review of the Research is the one that is the most related to your proposed research. **REMINDER: You’re always integrating the literature with YOUR proposed research** Introduction to Current Research (1/2 - 1 page) This section should be the intro to your research. It will almost follow the form of: “Past research (cite) has found/examined A. Past research has also found B and C (cite). Further, past research (cite) has indicated that…. However, research has not examined D. Therefore, the purpose of the current study is to examine D. More specifically, the current study was designed to examine… It is hypothesized that…” Your idea for research should NATURALLY stem from the previous research. **Please note that the above is an example. I’m just trying to show that (1) things need to be cited; and (2) you should use proper sentence structure and not just have a run on sentence. • IN SUMMARY, what has the previous research shown? o Be sure you cite things appropriately. o You should be discussing at least 4 of the articles from your literature review here in order to make a strong case for your proposed study. • IN SUMMARY, what still needs to be done (this is where you first introduce your study)? • What is the general purpose of your proposed research (to further study “A”)? • What is the research question (The research will determine whether “A” is affected by “B”)? • What do you hypothesize for your proposed research (It is hypothesized that “B” will help “A” more than…)? Methods (~2 – 3 pages) • Participants (1/2 – ¾ page) o Describe the Participants ▪ How many? • How many male? • How many female? ▪ Average age? ▪ Where were they recruited from? How were they recruited? ▪ Race o If there are control participants: ▪ Who are they? ▪ How many? ▪ Are they matched to the experimental group? o Describe the Informed Consent Procedure ▪ You must compose an Informed Consent form, describe it in this section, and include in Appendix A. o Describe the steps taken to maintain confidentiality in the class o Was there any compensation As you are writing the “Participants” section, consider the “Participants” section in the articles you read and summarized. Consider the amount of detail that was given. Your “Participants” section should provide the same level of detail. You should have a table that summarizes demographic info. • Measures (1/2 – 1 page) o Be very explicit ▪ Each measure should be named and described thoroughly. • Include reliability and validity information, if possible. ▪ All measures that are non-standardized should have a description in this section. ▪ You must describe the demographic questionnaire. Your group should design one and include it in Appendix B. • Procedure (1 – 1.5 pages) o Step by step, how did the study take place (you participated in it, so you should know): ▪ Describe exactly what happened. ▪ Were participants debriefed? Results (1-2 pages including tables/figures) • Descriptive statistics • What analysis did you use? o Was it significant o What was the direction/relationship? o Report values o Include the SPSS printouts in Appendix C. In this section, you use a figure in addition to what you write. Discussion (~3 pages) • Start with a summary of the results • Refer to the research hypothesis/question • Are your results consistent with the literature described in the literature review? You should be relating your results back to what you have in the literature review (including citations). • Interpret the results and offer explanations • Mention strengths and limitations of the study (and how they may have contributed to the consistency/inconsistency of previous research) • State implications in the Discussion (how does this add to the literature, how does this impact something, what makes this research important, why even study these things, etc). • Make recommendations for future research – this should be specific, and should be directly related to your limitations and implications.
