Research Paper.
Topic: Genetically Modified Organisms
Topic “Genetically Modified Organisms: Pros & Cons”
Thesis statement: “Genetically Modified Organisms should be evaluated properly to determine their safety in terms of health and environment as, besides proving valuable these might also pose detrimental impacts.” We will describe the pros and cons of genetically modified Organisms.
1. Introduction-

I) What are GMO’s?
II) Why these are needed?
2. Types of GMO’s-
I) Plants
II) Animals
III) Microbes
6. Conclusion

Each team member will research their area and write a three-page essay. Our paper will be based on the pros and cons of Genetically Modified Organism. Everyone should be able to brief his or her area during a live presentation. Communication is a must in the team discussion area to make sure we are on the same sheet of music. Attached is a list of references that can help you in our research.
The research paper needs to follow proper APA format with citations and resources, which are already attached. Please make sure the research paper is based on quality standard to make sure the work is done professionally. The due date for submission is no later than 31st May 2012 by 12 AM IST.

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)
Introduction:
Genetic Engineering is the manipulation of genome of a living cell by experimental m
ethods in the laboratory. Recombinant DNA is formed by combining DNAs from two different sources or different organisms related or unrelated. The recombinant DNA is also known as heterologous DNA. An important application of recombinant DNA technique is the production of medically important products such as insulin, somatostatin, vaccines, vitamins and antibodies. Bacterial cells are used as living factories in which respective recombinant DNA genes code for these substances. A large number of vaccines for immunisation against deadly diseases are being manufactured by this technique. Heredity diseases can be treated by gene therapy. DNA fingerprinting and auto-antibody finger printing technique developed from recombinant DNA have proved of great help for forensic science in identifying murderers and rapists by studying DNA or antibodies from blood and semen stains from the place of crime. In industry, this technique is used in the synthesis of certain enzymes required in processing agricultural products.
The transgenic organism contain functional genes introduced by genetic engineering from some other species. The foreign gene alters the host cell genetically, and is termed as transgene and the organisms with transgene are called transgenics or Genetically Modified Organsisms (GMOs).
Types of Transgenic Organisms
The transgenic organisms may be bacteris (micro-organisms), plants or animals.
1. Genetically Modified Microorganisms: Many kinds of new genes have been introduced into the kicroorganisms for various purposes. Transgenic bacterial and yeast cells have been...
