Vulnerability has existed for a brief period of time as the main reason for getting subjected to the voracious aspect of victimhood. This creates a situation where one is oppressed in consideration of the brutally appalling ignominious situation. One is chained and is subjected to the vindictive treatment and that disrupts the psychology of the individual in a dreadful manner. The situation of being a helpless victim means to be exposed to the abominable and atrocious aspect of the oppressor and therefore is unable to liberate from them. It still continues to increase at an unabated rate and have found its space in fictional writings of great writers. The subject of argument has been taken in reference to works of fiction. The two short stories that will be referred for substantiating this argument are The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” by Ursula LeGuin and “Where are you going Where have you been” by Joyce Carol.
Analysing LeGuin’s Story
The story revolves around the miserable situation of a single child to which Ursula LeGuin writes that people who tend to reside in Omelas will have to “perceive the terrible justice” that one will find in the jarring reality and should “accept it” accordingly (Ursula). She talks about the people who believe in the act of sacrifice involving the misery that can include one or maybe few of the contentment on the basis of the majority. The situation will not be recuperated but in turn get worsened because there will be people who will walk away from such situation. To this very aspect, the narrator subscribes to the view happiness is nothing other than the mutability ousting of the individual determination. It is in the same way the short story sheds light on the character of Meursault from The Outsider written by Albert Camus. For Meursault he found happiness in the indifference oozing of the killing of Arab and after having his loveless sex (Radhakrishnan). LeGuin believes that it is no way a guilt for accepting the necessity of being a scapegoat. It is only with the case of moral indignation that make the others leave. It can be said that the miserable situation of the child has to be brought forth in the guise of scapegoat, that will eventually instil joy in the people of Omelas.
