Design and Write a Report: You are to examine the corporate structure of a large distributed college campus environment. ( ie. Box Hill Institute). Given details of the organisation, staff, students, geographical considerations and physical network structure you must design a Windows Server Active Directory structure including Organisational Unit design within a Single Domain. Note: You must give reasons for your design in this report. · In designing this structure consider that you will need to configure Group Policies for Mobile and remote access such that the users need access to a different DNS. · Finance and Payroll require access to special software that needs to be updated automatically via a GPO. · Staff should have no Internet restrictions but must have mandatory corporate wallpaper on their workstations, but students must not have access to some specific sites. · Human Resources require a secure environment that is that is managed by a GPO. · Student computers should be restricted in access to desktop changes, mandatory corporate wallpaper and must not be allowed to change the display characteristics. Keep in mind that at the Dubai and Singapore campuses there are also some duplicated departments. The final design of your Active Directory will need to be drawn in an application such as Microsoft Visio which is available via the MSDN and Library. Aspects to consider in the design and report may include but are not limited to: · Network clients (users needs)? · Ease of administration? · Mobile and remote users? · Wireless connectivity? · Design strategies. (Location, functional, organisational or a combination)? · Number of Domain Controllers and their placement? · Cost – equipment and staff? · Authentication methods? · Group Policy deployment? 2. Research Paper: Other Directory Services from other Network Operating Systems. What is required is for you to show your understanding of the role of a Directory Service, and the differences and similarities between several Directory Services that you find in your research. Remember that an Active Directory structure is designed with network administration in mind, and it usually does not resemble the corporate structure at all. There is no specific answer to this design and many different designs could be quite appropriate. Research Report Guidelines The research report should be neat, readable, and self-contained. Also, it should be written with the readers in mind. Any class member should be able to understand your report, and benefit from the results you obtain. Therefore, you should include adequate references and/or background materials and you should use tables, diagrams, graphs, figures, and ports of printouts to enhance readers’ comprehension of your research. Students should be aware that plagiarism will not be tolerated and any work handed in will be tested for originality. Use of direct quotations from published works must be properly referenced. Use of quotations in anything other than a non-substantial manner will result in zero marks being awarded and the report returned for resubmission. The following structure is suggested. 1. Title Page - A title for your report, name and student id of all team members, date submitted. 2. Executive Summary – It comes first in your report, but you write it last. Gives brief information on the purpose, methods, results and conclusions reported. About half a page in length. 3. Table of Contents. 4. Introduction – Include background material ad discuss what you want to include in this report. You may have subheadings for this section. 5. Discussion – The body of your report and discusses details about the technology, example scope, use, research done in this area, methodology used, etc. Be sure to fully describe and figures, tables or diagrams you include. You may have a subheading for this section. 6. Results. 7. Conclusions. 8. References (must be included and follow APA or IEEE style for referencing) 9. Appendices, including supporting material as needed. 10. Glossary of terms (if required) Resources: You can use any resource available to you. It is suggested that you research widely using many resources, Web, books, Databases, and the appropriate RFC’s. Submission: The paper can be submitted via http://studentweb.bhtafe.edu.au . This way we are being environmentally responsible and saving a few trees. Research Paper Writing: A document on report writing has been uploaded to the http://studentweb.bhtafe.edu.au . You can find this document in the assignment section. This will help you to structure your submission. Clarity of Writing: Your goal is to explain a Directory Service and what its role in a network is. What sort of functions and features do they provide? Length: This Research Paper and Report should be no less than eight A4 single sided pages in 10 point font. It can be more and will include diagrams preferably done in a software package such as Visio which is freely available via the MSDN site. Marking Guidelines Marks Correct Report structure as outlined above. 5 Diagram of your Windows Server 2012 Active Directory design 5 Write a report outlining reasons for your final AD design. 10 Write a Research paper that compares Microsoft Directory Service to Directory Services used by other Network Operating Systems. Quality of research (content depth and breadth of your research, demonstrated analysis of the topic, understanding of the topic. 15 References (Your arguments should be supported by scholarly references, follow APA or IEEE style referencing, general websites including Wikipedia will not be considered as valid references.) 10 Total Marks 45 Whitehorse Campus Cisco Router/Switch Internet Cloud Box Hill Institute LAN/WAN bhtafe.com Nelson Campus HQ Perimeter Network (DMZ) Subnet 2 172.17.0.0 WEB Server XP Workstation WAN Connection to ISP Domain Controller DNS/DHCP Server XP Workstation XP Workstation XP Workstation Subnet 3 172.18.0.0 Subnet 1 172.16.0.0 Public Address 203.35.64.12 192.168.1.1 Exchange Server Switch Staff Network Switch Student Network Switch Max 24 ports per classroom Elgar Campus Switch Public Address 225.60.128.7 Subnet 1 172.16.32.1 VPN connections through Internet RRAS/PPP/PPTP VPN Server RRAS/PPP/PPTP VPN Server VPN/PPTP Client Remote Access, Outlook Web Access Connection to ISP via ISDN, ADSL, Modem WAN Connection Nelson Campus DNS Server Exchange Server Exchange Server Switch Perimeter Network (DMZ) Cisco Router ad.bhtafe.com www.bhtafe.com mail.bhtafe.com DNS Server www.bhtafe.com ad.bhtafe.com ad.bhtafe.com www.bhtafe.com mail.bhtafe.com Dubai Branch Office Singapore Branch Office WAN Connection to Nelson Campus WAN Connection to ISP WAN Connection to Nelson Campus Cisco Router Cisco Router Student Classroom Switches XP Workstation XP Workstation EMBED Visio.Drawing.11 Wednesday, 2 August 2017 Case Study Research Report OS1 2016.doc 1 _1435326491.vsd Router Hub Computer Server Modem City Town Firewall Laptop Internet Cloud WAN Connection to ISP Domain Controller DNS/DHCP Server Perimeter Network (DMZ) Subnet 2 172.17.0.0 XP Workstation WEB Server XP Workstation XP Workstation Subnet 3 172.18.0.0 Subnet 1 172.16.0.0 Public Address 203.35.64.12 192.168.1.1 XP Workstation XP Workstation Exchange Server Dubai Branch Office Singapore Branch Office WAN Connection to Nelson Campus Box Hill Institute LAN/WAN bhtafe.com Nelson Campus HQ Cisco Router/Switch Switch Staff Network Switch WAN Connection to ISP WAN Connection to Nelson Campus Whitehorse Campus Subnet 1 172.16.32.1 Elgar Campus Student Network Switch Max 24 ports per classroom XP Workstation Switch Public Address 225.60.128.7 VPN connections through Internet RRAS/PPP/PPTP VPN Server RRAS/PPP/PPTP VPN Server VPN/PPTP Client Remote Access, Outlook Web Access Connection to ISP via ISDN, ADSL, Modem WAN Connection Nelson Campus DNS Server Exchange Server Exchange Server Switch Perimeter Network (DMZ) Cisco Router ad.bhtafe.com www.bhtafe.com mail.bhtafe.com DNS Server www.bhtafe.com ad.bhtafe.com ad.bhtafe.com www.bhtafe.com mail.bhtafe.com Cisco Router Cisco Router Student Classroom Switches
