Introduction: Reputation is one of the most important asset of a company. Business ethics helps a lot to build the reputation of a company.Once,it lost it is difficult task to rebuild it once it. Same is the case with the Mossack Fonseca (MF) which has a world wide reputation but after the scandal of ‘Panama Papers’ it losses its reputation.
Overview of Company background:
Mossack Fonseca and Co. was a Panama based law firm, headquartered at Panama city, Panama. It provided legal solutions, company formations, intellectual property services to its clients. It had worldwide operations and run its business by various franchises around the world. It mostly operated in tax havoc countries like Cyprus, Bristish Virgin Islands , Switzerland etc. Ruben Hernandez is the CEO of MF. Ramon Fonseca Mora and Jurgen Mossack was the co founders of MF. At one of the time, it was one of the 4 largest offshore financial service provider company.The firm on 14 March, 2018 declared its decision to close down the business due to economic issues and loss of reputation.
Exposure of Panama Papers’ Scandal:
The scandal came to light when on 3 April, 2016 John Doe send the document he gathered from MF to Suddeutsche Zeitung , a German newspaper. International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and Suddeutsche Zeitung bring these records to the media lie light.They claimed that they are having 11.5 million files from the database of MF. These records show how the rich persons and the criminals fraudulence erosion the ethics around the world. These documents showed the different ways used by company to make rich use of offshore tax regimes to evade taxes. The records contain the names of political leaders of many nations like Putin of Russia, Jinping of China, Juan Damiani the FIFA ethics judge and other elite people . It contains information on more than 200,000 offshore entities .The company has made shell companies and shadow directors
