Repeat Prob. 3.20 except that the longitudinal direction is to be considered.
Prob. 3.20
Given: The plan and section of the building in Fig. 3.E. Roof dead load D = 10 psf, floor dead load D 18 psf plus 10 psf for interior partitions, exterior wall dead load D = 16 psf. Basic wind speed 85 mph. Exposure C and ASCE 7 are specified. Enclosed bearing wall structure has standard occupancy classification. The building has a bearing wall system, braced with wood structural panel shearwalls. The building is located in Sacramento, California, with a mapped short-period spectral acceleration of 0.56g and a mapped one-second spectral acceleration of 0.22g. Site Class B, Occupancy Category IV, should be assumed. Neglect any wall openings.
Find: For the transverse direction using ASD load combinations: a. The unit shear in the roof diaphragm b. The unit shear in the floor diaphragm c. The unit shear in the second-floor shearwall d. The unit shear in the first-floor shearwall
