role-play being a ‘difficult interviewee’ (e.g. asking the researcher lots of questions
about their experiences, giving monosyllabic answers, going off topic) – don’t tell
the interviewer the ways you’re going to be difficult; let it come as a surprise! The
interviewer’s task is to try to manage the difficulties and keep the interview on track.
Again, the observer and interviewee should feedback to the interviewer on their
performance, and everyone should take a turn in each role.
