Manage Discussion EntryDiversity within an organization is seen as a society moving in the right direction of equality. However, diversity within a workplace can still and is shadowed by individual biases that sometimes go unnoticed. The basis gets unnoticed by those who view biases as an understood way of life which only demonstrates that the world in which we live still has a long way to go before its free of prejudiced and chauvinist individuals. Many tests claim to measure biases, yet those tests are concerned with validity and reliability (Goldhill,2017). Workplace diversity can have conflicts and increase negative behavior when employees don't feel welcomed by those in leadership roles.
In my leadership position, I hope to make every employee feel welcomed by having a diverse team and by providing opportunities to share knowledge which will enhance the performance of the employees. I would make sure that training gets done on diversity and the importance of having a diverse organization. I would make specific cultural differences get celebrated and bring awareness to others' beliefs and values that align with the organization's mission and values. Findings have revealed that diversity management also lowers absences (Neault, 2011). In addition to making new employees feel welcome, some other ways to help with workplace diversity are providing incentives.
The rewards would be accessing a bigger pool of talent and be making a return on investment in training and greater connection to clients and customers, and also addressing the social and ethical drivers for increasing diversity, such as overpowering disadvantages with access to education, health and economic resources(O'Brien,2015). I will focus on the qualification and job performance of employees while also utilizing job performance evaluations to ensure that advancements are made in regards to an employee's work ethic and not based on their gender, race, or friendships.
Thanks,
Renalta

Manage Discussion EntryDiversity in the workplace is seen as a benefit to the organization. It is important to include diversity in the workplace to increase the different perspectives, ideas, and experiences. Specific positions, such as employment counselors, can work with and support individuals and organizations to help include diverse employees and help them be appreciated, welcomed, and encouraged to contribute (Neault & Mondair, 2011). Diversity is not something that should be excluded. It should be embraced. Everyone has something to contribute, and it is beneficial to an organization when everyone does not think the same.
Unfortunately, some employers may find it easier to assess the competence of possible candidates that are from the same culture than being from a different culture (Morgan & Vardy, 2006). This behavior can highly influence recruiting, interviews, and overall bias in the workplace. Some of these biases can start as early as an employer being biased from a name and not giving an interview because of its origin. Although this behavior is against the law it does not stop it from happening (Neault & Mondair, 2011).
It is important for everyone in the workplace to be aware of bias whether it be conscious or unconscious. It is also important to train employees on diversity. As a leader it is essential to build awareness of these potential issues that can lead to discrimination. Knowledge is always the key and providing training that explains the benefits and importance of having a diverse workplace is important. It is important for employees to build trust, rapport, work as a team, and embrace all the diverse perspectives.
