The most common biases that may occur between colleagues on typical projects within an
organisatio
n are mainly those relating to the perception of each employee as regards the
attribution or reasons for each individual’s behaviour. We all like to believe that the reasons
for a person’s failure to achieve targets or the desired performance are mainly their lack of
effort, inadequacies and inabilities. This has a direct impact on the risk identification and risk
analysis process. As a result of this perception or attribution, employees and managers have a
negative visualisation of the employees’ behaviour and may thus, give a poor performance
appraisal to the employees and even terminate their jobs. On a more positive note, the
employees may be called in for further job related training. This shifts the focus of the
managers from the true cause of behaviour and less than desired performance and thus,
