You will be required to cover ethical practice in the context of group collaboration based on your personal experience in completing the group assignment. Context In professional life, while some parts of a job require individual contribution for which one is held individually accountable, many of one’s career deliverables require collaboration and group work. Group learning is designed to help you learn about the process of collaboration in preparation for your career. Equally, ethics are the principles of right and wrong that guide individuals in their behaviours, and all groups are made up of individuals. Ethics is a concept that is often discussed, but it is human behaviours and choices that lead to either desirable or undesirable outcomes. Many times, codes of ethics are covered for employees in the induction process into a new job, but it is actions that determine ethical behaviour. Similarly, with a group assignment, individual behaviour can produce desirable or undesirable outcomes for a group, and ethics and ethical behaviours (integrity) are at the core of which outcomes are achieved. Reflective practice is recognised as a valuable part of learning through experience. Reflective practice is a process of thinking about new experiences with a view of learning from them. It is a form of personal analytical response to new experiences, situations, events or information. As group work is often a key development area for students and University is the best place to learn, reflection is considered a key part of the learning process for this course. It also enables you to increase your understanding and to gain new insights about yourself, others and situations. A result of these new insights may lead to a change of thinking or behaviour with the aim of improving outcomes in the future. Kolb – The Experiential Learning Cycle (2013, p.8) The above model from Kolb shows the different learning modes of experiential learning. First comes the experience of working in a group, with successes and challenges. However, for experiential learning to take place reflections need to be drawn from the experience, deep thinking needs to be done to determine what worked well, what didn’t and how could better outcomes have been achieved. Thereafter these findings can be taken forward to the next group assignment experience for active experimentation to achieve good outcomes. Write a 1500 word reflective report addressing the concepts of ethical practice in the context of group collaboration based on your experience in completing the group assignment (Assessment 2: Solution Plan). 2. Please structure your report as follows: Title page: include a title page with the subject code and subject name, assignment title, student’s name, student number and learning facilitator’s name. Introduction (100-150 words): which will also serve as your statement of purpose for this report – this means that you will tell the reader what you are going to cover in your report. You will need to inform the reader of: a. Your area of reflection b. Key concepts in this reflective report c. What the reader can expect to find in the body of the report The body of the report (1000-1200 words): covers the concepts of ethical practice in the context of group collaboration based on your experience in completing the group assignment. The following questions serve to guide you writing in this reflection and carry equal weight: a. How did the group take responsibility for their individual contributions to the project and what likely consequences did the group identify should a group member not deliver an equitable contribution to the project? b. How did the group manage accountability for work done in this assignment? How did they determine who was responsible for each activity and how did they ensure that the activity was done on time and with the right level of quality? c. What communications channels and regular meetings were set up for the group? Did this work well? On reflection, are there any improvements which would have made this more effective for achieving group goals? d. How did the group ensure the accuracy of the information they gathered from research for your group work? Were there any steps to validate references and sources that were included by individuals in the group final report for which they are mutually responsible? e. What have you learned about the process of group planning, group goal setting and managing expectations of team members from the process of delivering your group assessment? Conclusion: summarise the three most important elements you have learned from the group assignment (Assessment 2: Solution Plan) that you have uncovered via your self-reflection. Please use font Arial or Calibri 11 point, should be line spaced at 1.5 for ease of reading and page numbers on the bottom of each page. b. If diagrams or tables are used, due attention should be given to pagination to avoid loss of meaning and continuity by unnecessarily splitting information over two pages. Diagrams must carry the appropriate captioning. 4. Referencing a. In a reflection, there may be little or no reference to external material if the writer is simply exploring their own thoughts. However, should you refer to any lecture notes or other material you will be required to reference these sources both in-text and on the reference list using APA referencing style.
