BMIS 311 - Module Reflection At the end of each module you will be asked to create a “Reflection Elucidation”. The elucidation (to make lucid or clear; throw light upon; explain) will consist of two parts: (1) A discourse (communication of thought by words; talk; conversation) where you reflect on the course material and the lessons learned during the module. (2) The second part is a discourse where you reflect on your team experience during the module. The key term in the assignment name is reflection (a fixing of the thoughts; careful consideration). In order to do well on part one of this assignment, you need to take some time to think about what you learned and what the implications of that knowledge might entail. Simply copying definitions of key terms or concepts from the module does not require the type of critical thinking necessary for this assignment. Similarly, for part 2, you need to reflect on the team interactions that occurred during the module. When there are successes, you should note the contributions, if any, of all team members. If there are failures, you should own your part in that failure and indicate how you can keep the team from repeating the same mistake in the future. Simply taking credit for a success or simply blaming a team member(s) for a failure is not sufficient. What did I learn? To aid in the process of reflecting on the IT theories, concepts or general lessons you learned during the module, try to think about the following ideas. How can you relate the material to: • your personal life? • your work life? • The topics that you are studying in other classes? Finally, and most importantly, ask yourself this question: As the owner or CEO of my own business what did I learn from this module that will make my business more successful? My Team Interactions To aid in the process of reflecting on the quality of your team experience you may wish to ask yourself the following questions: • What was the amount of learning that occurred strictly through your team interactions? • What was the overall level of participation of the team members in team activities? • What was the overall quality of the team experience during the last module? • What specific team building/team maintenance techniques did you do employ to improve the overall team experience for yourself and the rest of the team and how well did they work?? • Finally, how will you apply the successes and failures you experienced with this team to teams you will participate in in subsequent courses in the JJCBE and at MSU? Please remember that this is an exercise designed to improve the team experience. For this to occur all team members need to take ownership of the team experience. Simply blaming others for their “lapses” or claiming all the successes in a team will not lead to a constructive result.
