During summer break, I came across two people in my neighborhood who were discussing about racial discrimination and the stressful situations that arise between Whites and Black. Later in the histo
ry class, the teacher taught about the same. I wondered how skin color affects the behavior of people towards a particular race. Since independence of United States, the country is struggling to get rid of this sin (English et al. 2020).
Slavery, de jure and de facto racial discrimination embedded in the social system so deeply that not all the communities can remain untouched with its impact. It is responsible for trauma, anti-social behavior, social unrest, and economic injustice, which was suffered by the Black community. The efforts of Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln shook the government and made other communities think about basic human rights, which Black should have (Constante et al. 2021). They voiced in peaceful manner and created a flame of change in the society.
However, the battle is still pending. At present, various cases are reported on regular basis, which draws my attention. As I have studied the topic in class, I can relate to it well. Though none of my experience falls in close proximity of my surroundings, I would like share a case of a student about whom I read on the online news portal. I keenly followed the whole story and even researched about it on the Internet as well.
Saama Sane a junior student at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts in 2016 complained that a white student abuse him with N-word when he was studying in the school library. When he tried to respond him back, five students head-locked him on the floor, laughing at him and they stood by him. However, the school authorities took disciplinary action against them but he felt suffocated in the school. The wounds of the incident are still fresh in his memories. This inculcates the feeling of self-hatred and fear in him.
