In qualitative research, the sample size chosen is purposeful and comparatively small as compare
to the samples used for a quantitative study. In research continuum, it’s present at the left hand of
continuum, where specific questions are set up in advance to start the study. As the study
proceeds, on right side specific questions are present. At left side, data is also structured.
The participants are often selected in qualitative study because they have the ability to present
their experience in a more presentable and productive manner. This is so because participants
have unique position of involvement in the process or they have direct experience in the process
of interest as expressed in the question of research. Hence using participants, data can be
collected in detail (SANTY, 1999). Qualitative research examines events from the point of views
of individuals undergoing a particular process. This approach allows the researchers to study the
phenomenon in detail and address the complexity of process under investigation. Along with
relationships are described as well. This will enable researchers to develop a picture of whole
which can increase and guide the future research. (E. A. THOMPSON, 1998) (WALKER, 1998)
