A small 12-ft-high spillway is placed across a 8-ftwide rectangular channel carrying a discharge of 200 cfs as shown in Figure P13.34. The Francis C value for the spillway is 3.30. A hydraulic jump will
be formed downstream of the spillway using an end sill that will function as a sharp-crested weir with a Francis C value of 3.33 relative to the actual head on the weir. Ignore energy losses over the spillway face.
a. What should be the height of the sill so as to force the jump to occur right at the toe of the spillway? b. What will be the force acting on the sill?
