Recycling saves energy—an estimate of the saving is the difference between the embodied energy for primary production and that for recycling. Explore whether more energy is saved in this way than could be recovered if the material were combusted for energy recovery. Create a chart with these two energies as axes. Select linear scales and plot a line along which the two are equal. Hence identify any material for which more energy could be recovered by combustion than by recycling.
