Received SNR Figure 10-78 shows the layout of a reliable, 22 Mbit data link. To achieve the required system reliability, the signal power at the receiver must be 50 dB above the receiver’s MDS. The following characteristics apply:
• Transmitter. 3 watts, 16QAM modulation, 4.5 GHz. The transmitter is physically located at base of Tx tower.
• Receiver: 6 MHz noise bandwidth, 7 dB noise figure. The receiver is physically located at base of Rx tower.
• Cable: loss is 4.5 dB/100 feet
• Antennas: The distance between the transmit and receive towers is 6 km. The gain of the transmitting antenna and of the receiving antenna is 32 dBi. The receiver antenna noise temperature, viewed at the input of the receiver, is 140◦K. Both antennas should be the same height.
• Assume free-space path loss.
• The antenna tower heights are 150 feet. Find the SNR at the receiver’s input
