In your reading summary you need to include:



  • A thesis statement.

  • Paragraphs outlining the main points in chronological order and supporting evidence presented in the reading.

  • Demonstrate your understanding of any key terminology used.


· Include no more than 2 (short) quotes, all other work must be paraphrased and all should be referenced appropriately.



Critical Analysis



In your critical analysis you are expected to:


Provide a critical analysis on the summarized reading. Use the critical analytical thinking checklist and the example activity on the LMS to guide your critical thinking and writing.


You must use other sources (in addition to the article you have summarised).


Your critical analysis should:



  • Evaluate the evidence presented – remember you need to use other sources (literature) to support your evaluation.

  • Consider and analyse multiple perspectives – remember you need to use other sources (literature) to support these perspectives.

  • Demonstrate how the thesis relates to other ideas presented in FlexiTrack lectures activities or readings, or in your own reading/research

  • Include only paraphrases of these other texts.




Referencing





You are required to have appropriate referencing (in-text for your paraphrases and direct quotes and end-text) in both your summary and critical analysis. For this reading ensure that:


· You have checked the Chicago 17 in-text referencing has been included in your summary and critical analysis for all your paraphrases and direct quotes.


· Your in-text referencing includes page numbers or paragraph numbers (where page numbers do not exist).


· Your end-text referencing with full bibliographic details for the reading and the supporting literature in the critical analysis (Chicago 17 referencing) has been provided.






Word count



Your total word count for this task is 1000 words (500 words in summary and 500 words in critical analysis). This task will include both paraphrasing and quoting but direct quotes
should not
exceed 10% of the word allowance (100 words maximum). Remember too that you cannot have more than two quotes in your work.
