1. What role did nationalism and imperialism play in the road to World War I?
Nationalism
and imperialism played very significant role in the road to World War I. Nationalism had set a belief that European technology, economy, culture and military superiority was the reason for subjugation of backward economies and cultures. Due to the extreme feelings of nationalism the pre-war Europeans were over-confident and would give provocative speeches to the people. Nationalism also gave inflated confidence to the people as newspapers were packed with inflammatory stories, in contrast the nationalistic ideas also demonized the opponent nation (Sivers). The nationalistic and imperialistic ideas therefore assured the people victory if the war happened.
