1. Which one section of the story is the most surprising? (There is justoneanswer to this.) Please give three examples of how the story surprised you. What techniques can you borrow for your story? When you read the section (page or two) for a second time, what became clearer?
2. What is the point of view in the story? How does it effect how we understand the protagonist? ( We are talking the different types of first person, second person, and third person --- remember, 1st and 3rd have two types each)
3. What is Cornelia's backstory? (Backstory events have happened before the present moment of the story; we only hear they occurred but they are in the past.)
4. What is the subtle message about writing that Pearlman gives to readers in the last section of the book? It is deliberate and part of the genius of this story. Hint: it has to do with the genre she writes in.
