Introduction
Catharsis is a word that describes emotional release or the state of purifying. The emotional release means that one needs to clean the unconscious turmoil. This is a state where an individual vividly describes a past memory lived. It is a chance to get rid of the pain caused by a certain experience. This ultimately cleanses the soul and provides comfort for the individual (Dobbins, 2009).
The character describes her struggle with a huge birthmark that has been on the left side of her face since she was born. She had to undergo a painful plastic surgery to get the birthmark removed. The laser surgery was tearing through her body while she lay on the table as the procedure was conducted.
