Read the DR Alarms case study in the Resources section of Interact 2 before attempting this assignment.

You are an ICT Cloud consultant and you have been approached by DR Alarms to advise them on how to improve their data centre and move into the Cloud. The Managing Director (MD) is still unsure that this is the best approach for his company as he feels that his company is "too small to be thinking about moving to the Cloud" and that any money should be spent on design, engineering and development rather than ICT. But both the Engineering manager and Sales Manager are both concerned that if the company's data centre isn't improved then the company will not be able to expand.

The company is in the process of gearing up for a major order for their new IoT devices and have realised that their ICT system is not up to the task of supporting this new product line and the level of interest that it is generating. The company is reluctant to put more capital into ICT infrastructure as the MD, correctly, reasons that this capital will be needed to support sales, manufacturing and distribution. The MD has read that the company can set up ICT infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS) for no capital cost and reasonable monthly payments for the use of their infrastructure. The DR Alarms MD is not entirely convinced that this is a valid approach as the company has always purchased and owned its own infrastrastructure so that it is not reliant on other organisations. But in the current circumstances, a Cloud approach now has to be investigated.

Task

The MD has asked you to prepare a report that discusses:

  1. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages, other than cost, of moving the DR Alarms ICT infrastructure to the Cloud (20 marks).

  2. Explain which of the Cloud Architectures that you think would be useful for DR Alarms to use as part of their Cloud infrastructure. This explanation should discuss:

    1. How the current DR Alarms infrastructure could be replicated or replaced in a Cloud deployment. This should include a diagram with a full description (20 marks), and

    2. Which of the DR Alarms servers should be deployed using an IaaS model and which should be deployed using PaaS (10 marks)

  3. Which approach would you recommend to DR Alarms to improve the desktop experience for their staff. You have previously discussed using Amazon Workspaces to provide a full Windows desktop to all users, but the company has been discussing the possible use of Microsoft Office 365 on their existing desktops. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each of these approaches and which one would you recommend and why. (30 marks).

  4. The Engineering Manager wants to run an online forum/discussion board for their new IoT devices. He thinks that this will allow his team to quickly and easily learn of issues and problems that customers have with their IoT devices, and would also give them a place to discuss possible new developments. You think that this could well be best handled by the use of an Cloud Edge solution. What should be considered to develop this type of service, and what advantages and disadvantages would this give to DR Alarms? (20 marks)

Your report should have a word count of 3000 words ± 10%. Your report should provide references in APA 7th ed. format.

Introduction
The cloud computing can be used as the latest technology which is already in use by different companies and the organisations present worldwide. The cloud computing is itself a very vast topic and covers a lot of different things. There are many advantages of having the cloud computing for the organization, but it also has consequences. The organization need to understand whether this technology is best solution for their company or not. To understand this, we can study about the disadvantages and advantages of the cloud computing technology. There are different advantages and disa
dvantages of this technology which we will discuss.
Advantages
One of the biggest advantages of having the cloud computing is reducing the overall cost of the computer for the users. It is financial advantage for the users who uses cloud computing first of the users does not have to purchase an extensive or powerful equipment to use the cloud computing technique. All the processing will be present at the cloud instead of doing it over the local computer. the application runs over the cloud instead of the desktop pc hence the desktop pc does not need any processing power or hard disk space as per the requirement of traditional desktop software.
Cloud computing helps to achieve the better performance of the system. The user does not have to executor have any program or file loaded over the local PC. User will not experience any delay for switching on or off their systems and also the internal network will be come much faster as there will be no traffic internally. The cloud computing helps to achieve a less IT infrastructure cost also. The Department of the organization can face the issues with the expenses for the infrastructure. Cloud computing helps to eliminate these expenses by adopting cloud computing technology. The organization does not need to invest large amount of the servers in their organization. The IT staff member will be able to utilise the computing power of the cloud with the help of replacement of internal commuting resources.
The cloud computing reduces the overall maintenance cost. We can reduce the maintenance cost with the help of cloud computing as we will not need any hardware or software for the organization. After installing cloud computing DR alarms will have a smaller number of the servers for the organization which will automatically reduce the maintenance cost immediately. They will not be any software on the computer of the organization which needs to be maintained by the IT staff members hence we can reduce the software maintenance also. The cloud computing allows easy and automatic update for the software.
It understands the requirement of the software to be updated and user does not have to worry about the updates and and the organization will also not have any extra expenses for updating or upgrading the requirement first of the cloud computing helps to increase the computing power of the system. After adopting the cloud computing we can use this power which is not limited to a single desktop power. It also provides unlimited storage capacity.
The cloud offers limitless storage capacity, but we can expand this also with the help of additional charge on the monthly basis. With the cloud computing we can enhance the security of the data. It will not have any chances of disk failure or disaster at the office. It allows us to access the document whenever required from any place.
Another most important which is related with the document is that whenever we added the document at one place and then try to access it somewhere else then it is the responsibility of the system to show the latest version. This can be achieved with the help of cloud. We can use the computer from anywhere. It is the biggest advantage of having cloud computing in the organization. With the help of this technology, we are not limited to use a single PC and we can use cloud PC from anywhere.
Disadvantages
There are different disadvantages also when we adopt cloud computing. When we are having cloud computing then to access the data or software it will need Internet connection. It is not possible for the employees to work without the Internet connection.
We will need Internet to connect us with the cloud PC and if there is no Internet connection it will not allow us to connect or work over it. Another disadvantage is the low-speed connection switch are generally not recommended. It is not a very big disadvantage as everyone has at least Internet connection of one megabyte per second at the workplace or at home. But it is important to mention that a user cannot work with the cloud computing if they are connected with a slow Internet connection like the dialogue. Even the web-based applications need a lot of bandwidth for downloading the large documents.
The adoption of the cloud computing can also reduce the speed. Even we if we are connected with the fast connection there can be instances where we face some delays as the web-based applications can be slower as compared with the access of some similar software program present over the desktop.
The reason behind this start we are demanding download and upload bandwidth from the web application requirement. Sometimes the data present in the cloud is also not secure. The data present in cloud does not inform about the exact location and also if it is secure.
Infrastructure of Cloud
In this section we will discuss about the infrastructure of the cloud with which we can have deployment of the environment for Dr alarms. Currently the organization has different servers and operating system for their organization. They are also connected with the printers and fax machines. The following diagram can be used as the infrastructure of cloud environment for the organization in this diagram it shows connection with the switches, router and Amazon Web Services.
The image shows Intel processors and the storage for data. As we can see in the image it has different...
