Its potential to support development is equally impressive. The immediate value of<br>the four-level interchange to the eThekwini metro was quite obvious, as it eased severe traffic<br>congestion caused by population growth and new residential developments in the Umhlanga and<br>La Lucia Ridge areas. Its wider importance lies in the fact that the M41 links coastal development in<br>the north of Durban to areas near Verulam, Tongaat and eGingindlovu. Important economic activity<br>in the fields of agriculture, agriprocessing and tourism depends on the quality of the M41 and its<br>linkages to the primary freeway network.<br>Equally significant is the convenient connection of these areas to King Shaka International Airport<br>and the adjacent Dube Cargo Terminal with its facilities for exporting fresh produce.
