Read over the selections by Clifford and James’ response to Clifford. Do you think James really answered Clifford? That is, do you think James’ reply showed that Clifford was wrong to conclude “it is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence”? Or was Clifford’s real argument left standing? Who is right, James or Clifford?
