Apple Inc, is an American multinational organization which has a diversified portfolio
and deals with manufacturing, designing and marketing computers, computer software and
different consumer electronics which includes iPhone, iPad etc. The company has been listed in
NASDAQ exchange under „AAPL‟ ticker symbol and is been headed by Mr. Bill Campbell. The
present CEO of Apple Inc. is Mr. Tim Cook, the former CEO of the company who is considered
as the innovator and the soul of the company who has helped in building differentiated products
across the market.
The company works strongly on innovation and technology, so as to have a competitive
edge in the market, with a strong focus on innovation, the company is able to makes
differentiated products which makes Apple Inc. one of the most successful company.
Strategic Intent:
“Strategic intent usually incorporates stretch targets, which force companies to compete
in innovative ways. In this McKinsey Award–winning article, Hamel and Prahalad describe four
techniques that Japanese companies use: building layers of advantage, searching for “loose
bricks,” changing the terms of engagement, and competing through collaboration” (Hamel and

world. Apple Inc. gives a strong focus to its technology, innovation and human resource, as
according to them the company can survive and have a competitive edge only when it has a
competitive advantage by focusing on these strategies.

has introduced new ranges of Apple ipod.
Competitor Analysis:
Apple Inc. works under high competitive environment, some of the major competitors of
Apple Inc. in personal computer segment are Dell, Compaq, Toshiba and Sony. Many companies
are coming up with innovative digital music players or consumer electronics who are giving
tough competition to Apple Inc, main being Sony, creative, iriver, Nokia, Sony etc. Apple Inc.
owns 10.6% of market share of personal computer segment in the US market. According to the
Eric Ogg, 2010, Dell has 23.1% market share whereas HP has 24.3% market share. Acer and
Toshiba are placed at fifth place in the personal computer segment. Windows is also one of the
major competitor of Apple as it is also the company which focuses on video content and gives
